Guides to thoughtful gifting

How to plan a birthday with a gift wishlist

A birthday wishlist can offer helpful hints without turning an invitation into a demand for a present. Gather ideas you would enjoy, leave room for different budgets and make it easier for guests to coordinate.

The quick answer

Create a Birthday celebration, add wishes and arrange them by priority. Share the same wishlist link with your guests so they can reserve an idea to help avoid duplicates. There is no draw, and reservations are hidden from the wishlist owner.

1. Decide who is organizing and what the celebration will be

Set the date, the plan and who will manage the wishlist before inviting guests. Whether it is a small gathering or a larger celebration, make the arrangements clear. If you are organizing for someone else, agree on their preferences. Naming the honoree in the celebration does not change who owns the wishlist or who can edit it.

2. Create the birthday in anything.gift

Sign in, open Celebrations and choose Birthday. Add a recognizable title, name the honoree and complete only the details you want to share. Saving creates that event’s wishlist. The button at the end of this guide opens creation with Birthday selected. If you cannot access an account or registration is unavailable, contact the support team.

3. Write personal wishes, not just product names

Think about hobbies, books you want to read, activities or something you would like to learn. Save your own idea without a URL, or choose a store link for a specific product. Add a size, color, edition or other detail when it matters, and use your own photo if helpful. Avoid publishing details that should not circulate among guests, such as your full date of birth.

4. Offer variety and mark your favorites

Include simple options alongside higher-budget ideas, without asking every guest to spend a set amount. Any price you enter is approximate, so check the currency. Drag cards by the handle to put your favorites first, or use the arrow buttons to reorder them. Priority offers guidance; it does not reserve gifts or require anyone to follow that order.

5. Share a friendly invitation and the wishlist link

Open Share link to copy the URL, use WhatsApp or get the QR code. Everyone attending a birthday can receive the same wishlist link; these are not personal exchange invitations. You might write: “I would love to celebrate with you! If a gift hint would help, here are a few ideas; your company matters most.” Review the message and recipient before sending it.

6. Explain reservations and arrange delivery

Ask guests to reserve an idea only if they plan to take care of it. Other guests can see availability, while the wishlist owner cannot see reservations. Reserving does not buy anything, charge money or confirm stock. Each guest purchases separately and arranges delivery. If their plans change, they should cancel their own reservation through the access they used to make it.

Common questions

Does a birthday need a draw?

No. The Birthday celebration type uses a shared wishlist and reservations. Use an exchange if you want to assign each person someone to give to.

Can I ask for an experience or something handmade?

Yes. An idea you write yourself can be saved without a URL. Describe what you would enjoy and the details that help someone choose; purchasing or arranging the experience happens outside the platform.

Can the honoree edit the list because their name is on it?

No. Entering their name does not grant editing access or change the owner. The account that created the list manages it; share only the access intended for your guests.
